Singapore police arrest 339 fraudsters, victims lost more than US$10 million
These suspects were involved in more than 1,100 fraud cases, including investment fraud, e-commerce fraud, employment fraud, online dating fraud, and pretending to be friends fraud.
The number of fraud cases in Singapore hit a record high in 2023, according to annual police figures released last month.
There were 46,563 cases reported in 2023, the highest number of scams since police began tracking them in 2016. In 2022, a total of 31,728 cases of fraud were reported.
Scam victims in Singapore lost $651.8 million in 2023, down slightly from the $660.7 million lost in 2022.
