Recently, a security guard in Singapore named Mohan lost more than $150,000 to an online scam he received via Telegram.
It is reported that on June 19, 44-year-old Mohan met a woman named Yu Ting through Telegram.
She told Mohan to sign up for an account on a website where he could earn commissions by completing tasks online.
However, he needs to send money before he can accept the task.

Yu Ting said that after he completed 35 tasks, he could get his money back along with the commissions he earned—but he would have to transfer his money before the tasks were completed.
Unsuspecting at first, Mohan continued to transfer money to different accounts until July 28, even transferring $59,335 in one day. In this way, he transferred a total of $155,081 in 39 days.
But when he tried to withdraw the money, he was told to wire another $120,000, which made Mohan suspicious.
“When I completed [the mission], I was told I was too slow and would have to pay another $120,000 to make further progress,” he recalled.
"It wasn't until then that I realized I might have been scammed."
Mohan told the scammer he would call the police, but was scoffed at: "You can send us the police report."
Mohan reported the crime to the police and by this time, he had lost 12 years of savings. After being cheated, he was already penniless.
