According to Bank Negara Malaysia's 2023 annual report, the National Fraud Response Center (NSRC) received 66,997 calls from the public regarding online financial scams in 2023, of which 25,991 calls were from defrauded victims.
The NSRC last year launched 8,754 investigative documents involving fraud and freezing orders amounting to RM69 million, and identified and disrupted 59,684 suspicious mule accounts to prevent multi-layered transactions to conceal the origin of stolen funds. .
Bank Negara also confirmed that the National Fraud Portal (NFP) will be launched in mid-2024 to further strengthen Malaysia’s defenses against financial fraud.
